Do I need my own number for products sold in shops?

Yes. Retail requires a GTIN assigned by GS1 Switzerland. Numbers you choose yourself are only suitable for stock, inventory and internal use.

What is the check digit?

The last digit of EAN, UPC and ITF-14. It is calculated from the other digits. If you leave it out, the generator adds it; if it is wrong, it tells you.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The barcode is created in your browser, the number never leaves your device.

Which format is right?

EAN-13 for retail products, Code 128 for internal numbers with letters, ITF-14 for cartons, GS1 DataMatrix for small surfaces with several data items.
