Frequently asked questions
Is it worth taking a cash discount?
Almost always. A 2 % cash discount for paying in 10 instead of 30 days equals about 37 % annual interest. Even an overdraft is usually cheaper than giving up the discount.
Is the cash discount calculated on the price before or after the discount?
On the price after the discount. That is why 10 % discount and 2 % cash discount add up to 11.8 %, not 12 %.
How is the annual rate calculated?
Commercially with 360 days: discount rate ÷ (100 − discount rate) × 360 ÷ (payment term − discount period) × 100.
