Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

SPF defines which servers may send for the domain. DKIM signs each email. DMARC tells recipients what to do with emails that fail both, and sends you reports.

Why doesn’t the tool find my DKIM key?

The name of the key (selector) can be chosen freely. Common names are checked; you’ll find yours in the header of a sent email under “DKIM-Signature” after “s=”.

Do I need MTA-STS?

It is optional. MTA-STS ensures that other mail servers only deliver to you encrypted. It makes sense once SPF, DKIM and DMARC are set up properly.
